There is no single Balewadi metro station. Pune Metro Line 3 has four stations with Balewadi in the name (Mitcon Balewadi, R K Laxman Museum Balewadi, Balewadi High Street and Balewadi Phata) plus the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Mahalunge station at the stadium end. As of 22 October 2026 none carries passengers: the Maan to R K Laxman Museum stretch was cleared on 23 July 2026 and awaits an inauguration date, while Balewadi High Street and Balewadi Phata are not part of the first opening.
Key takeaways
- Five Line 3 stations serve Balewadi. Mitcon Balewadi and R K Laxman Museum Balewadi are in the first phase cleared by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS).
- No passenger service had started as of 22 October 2026; the launch awaits an inauguration date.
- Balewadi High Street (planned as “Laxmi Nagar”) and Balewadi Phata are among six stations left out of the first 17.
- The operator targets the full corridor for around March 2027. Line 3 dates have slipped before.
- When a brochure says “metro nearby”, ask which station and whether it opens first.
Pune Metro Line 3 at a glance
Line 3, the Pink Line, runs from Maan at the Hinjawadi Phase 3 end to the District Court in Shivajinagar. It is a PMRDA project run under a public-private partnership, so updates come from PMRDA, not from MahaMetro, which runs Pune’s Lines 1 and 2.

The Balewadi metro stations, one by one
Counting from Hinjawadi, the stations serving Balewadi are numbers 10 to 14. The table uses the names now listed on the Pink Line station list, with planning names alongside. We matched old and new names by position and found no official renaming notice, so brochures may use either.
| Station (now listed as) | Planning name | In first phase? | Road distance from Dasara Chowk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Mahalunge | Balewadi Stadium | Yes | Sports complex is 2.7 km |

Distances are OSRM road distances from Dasara Chowk in central Balewadi, checked October 2026. Actual walks vary with lanes and gates.
Sports Complex Mahalunge and Mitcon Balewadi
The Sports Complex station serves the stadium built for the 1994 National Games, which later hosted the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games and 2019 Khelo India Youth Games (Wikipedia). Mitcon Balewadi, planned as NICMAR, is 1.3 km from Dasara Chowk on the MITCON campus side. Both are in the cleared first phase.
R K Laxman Museum Balewadi
Planned as Ram Nagar, this is 0.8 km from Dasara Chowk and the last stop of the first stretch from Maan. Until the High Street station opens, it will be the practical boarding point for most of central Balewadi, including Laxmi Nagar, where Bhansali Bespoke is being built, so expect peak-hour crowds.
Balewadi High Street and Balewadi Phata
Balewadi High Street, planned as Laxmi Nagar, is closest to the restaurant strip at 0.5 km. Balewadi Phata, 1.5 km away where Balewadi meets Baner Road, suits Baner-side societies. Neither is in the first opening. Wikipedia shows March 2027 for the High Street station, but we found no official date.
Where things stand in October 2026
The opening has slipped repeatedly since the original March 2023 deadline. The recent sequence:
- 19 June 2026: The operator’s CEO says costs are up nearly 20% and targets full operations by March 2027 (Swarajya).
- 23 July 2026: CMRS clears 12 stations from Maan to R K Laxman Museum Balewadi (The Bridge Chronicle); Swarajya puts this stretch at 13.3 km.
- August to September: PMRDA awaits an inauguration date from the Prime Minister’s Office and expands the first opening from 12 to 17 stations.
- 22 September: The code of conduct for Legislative Council elections takes effect, reportedly until end-October (NativePlanet).
- 23 September: CMRS reportedly clears five more stations, making 17 (NativePlanet).
Reports conflict on that last step: The Bridge Chronicle said on 26 September that the clearance was still awaited. We found no confirmed opening date as of 22 October 2026, so check PMRDA’s Line 3 page or recent news before relying on any date.
Why two Balewadi stations open later
A Free Press Journal report of 23 September 2026 lists six stations outside the first phase: Laxmi Nagar (now Balewadi High Street), Balewadi Phata, Baner Gaon, Baner, RBI and Shivajinagar. PMRDA plans to run trains through them without stopping so finished sections can open earlier. No report gives a station-specific reason, and we could not verify one.
- Central Balewadi residents will board at R K Laxman Museum or Mitcon Balewadi at first.
- Baner’s stations are also closed initially, so some Baner commuters may come to Balewadi stations by road.
- If the 17-station plan holds, Balewadi riders can still travel east to SPPU and District Court.
Considering a 3 or 4 BHK in Balewadi?
Bhansali Bespoke – The Hamptonns offers 3 BHK (1,186–1,212 sq ft) and 4 BHK (1,802–1,810 sq ft) homes in Laxmi Nagar, near Balewadi High Street. MahaRERA PM1260002600725.
What the metro will change for a Balewadi commute
To Hinjawadi
Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park Phase 1 is 6.9 km by road from Dasara Chowk, 15 to 25 minutes off-peak, and peak traffic can double that. Hinjawadi Phase-I station is four stops west of R K Laxman Museum, and the line continues through Phase 2 to Maan, so the time saved grows the further west you work. Most campuses will still need a walk or shuttle.
To the University and Shivajinagar
University Circle is 7.2 km and Shivajinagar station 11.0 km by road. With 17 stations running, you could ride to SPPU and District Court, where a 150-metre foot bridge links to MahaMetro lines for Pimpri-Chinchwad, Kothrud and Ramwadi (The Bridge Chronicle).
The last mile
In May 2026 the Baner-Balewadi Citizens Forum told the PMC that several internal roads are incomplete because of pending land acquisition and that pedestrian facilities are inadequate (Free Press Journal). We have seen no confirmed parking or feeder-bus plan for these stations.
Metro and Balewadi property prices
Much of the metro effect is already priced in. On 99acres, Balewadi’s average rose from ₹8,500 per sq ft in Q1 2023 to ₹10,600 in Q4 2025, about 25% in three years (99acres). Square Yards, using a different method, shows ₹14,350 in December 2025 and ₹16,700 in September 2026 (Square Yards). Compare like with like.
The opening may lift rents before capital values, since Hinjawadi tenants value a car-free commute. Broker Network puts 3 BHK rents at ₹35,000 to ₹55,000 a month (July 2026). See our Balewadi property rates trend for more.
- Walking distance: a 5 to 10 minute walk to an open station beats “1 km from metro” on a map.
- Viaduct-facing flats: lower floors facing the line get train noise and less privacy.
How to check a project’s “near metro” claim
- Ask for the station by its current name and whether it is in the first phase.
- Walk the route once at 9 am on a weekday.
- Confirm the project’s location on MahaRERA; our guide on checking MahaRERA registration shows how.
- Do not pay extra for a “metro-facing” flat without seeing where pillars and stairs are.
For example, Bhansali Bespoke – The Hamptonns is in Laxmi Nagar, so its closest planned station is Balewadi High Street, one of those opening later; R K Laxman Museum is under a kilometre from Dasara Chowk. With possession targeted for December 2029 (some portals show December 2030), the full line should be running before handover if targets hold even roughly. See the location details and current prices.
Bottom line
Once Line 3 runs end to end, Balewadi will be among the better-served parts of west Pune. Today nothing is open and the High Street and Phata stations come later, so buy for the location as it works now and treat the metro as an upside with an uncertain date. FAQs
Which is the nearest metro station to Balewadi High Street?
The Balewadi High Street station, planned under the name Laxmi Nagar, is about 0.5 km by road from Dasara Chowk. It is not part of the first opening, though. Until it opens, the nearest working station will be R K Laxman Museum Balewadi, about 0.8 km from Dasara Chowk, which is the last stop of the first phase from Maan.
Is the Balewadi metro station open now?
No. As of 22 October 2026, no Line 3 station carries passengers. The Maan to R K Laxman Museum Balewadi stretch received CMRS clearance on 23 July 2026, and five more stations were reportedly cleared on 23 September. The launch is waiting for an inauguration date, held up by the Prime Minister’s schedule and an election code of conduct.
When will Pune Metro Line 3 fully open?
The operator told reporters in June 2026 that it targets full operations on the 23-station corridor by around March 2027. The six stations left out of the first phase, including Balewadi High Street and Balewadi Phata, depend on pending work and clearances. Earlier deadlines have slipped repeatedly, so treat March 2027 as a target rather than a promise.
What were the old names of the Balewadi stations?
In planning documents they were Balewadi Stadium, NICMAR, Ram Nagar, Laxmi Nagar and Balewadi Phata. They are now listed as Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Mahalunge, Mitcon Balewadi, R K Laxman Museum Balewadi, Balewadi High Street and Balewadi Phata. We matched them by position on the line, as we found no official renaming notice.
Will Line 3 connect with the other Pune metro lines?
Yes. At District Court in Shivajinagar, a 150-metre pedestrian bridge connects Line 3 with MahaMetro’s existing network, so riders can change for Pimpri-Chinchwad, Kothrud and Ramwadi. District Court is reported to be among the 17 stations in the first opening, so Balewadi riders may be able to make that change from the first day.
