Balewadi to Hinjewadi Commute: Routes, Time & Metro - Bhansali Bespoke Balewadi guide

Balewadi to Hinjewadi is 6.9 km by road from Dasara Chowk to Hinjawadi Phase 1, about 11.5–12 km to the Phase 2 campuses and 13.4 km to TCS Sahyadri Park in Phase 3. Off-peak, Phase 1 takes 15–25 minutes by car and peak traffic can double that, while Metro Line 3 had not opened as of 23 October 2026. We measure from Dasara Chowk, the reference point we also use for The Hamptonns Balewadi.

Key takeaways

  • Phase 1 is 6.9 km via Radha Chowk and NH48, Phase 2 is 11.5–11.9 km via Bhumkar Chowk and Laxmi Chowk, and Phase 3 is about 13.4 km via Mahalunge.
  • Laxmi Chowk, Wipro Circle and Bhumkar Chowk topped an August 2026 hotspot survey.
  • On Metro Line 3, Hinjawadi Phase-I is four stops from R K Laxman Museum Balewadi; no opening date was confirmed as of 23 October 2026.
  • COCO Rides, an app-based shuttle for Hinjawadi Industries Association member firms, launched in May 2026.
  • Cycling to Phase 1 is about 5.7 km and 27 minutes, partly on highway service roads.

Balewadi to Hinjewadi distance, phase by phase

Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, usually called Hinjewadi (officially Hinjawadi), is a 2,800-acre MIDC park in three phases with offices of over 800 companies, according to Wikipedia. We ran each route through the OSRM router on OpenStreetMap data in October 2026.

Free-flow times assume empty roads, so treat them as a floor. Plan on 15–25 minutes to Phase 1 off-peak and at least double at peak.

The two main driving routes

Via Radha Chowk and NH48 (Phases 1 and 2)

The routed path leaves along Balewadi Road to Radha Chowk, 2.0 km from Dasara Chowk, and joins the NH48 bypass towards Mumbai. For Phase 1 you exit after about 1.6 km and finish on Hinjawadi Road. For Phase 2 you stay on to the Bhumkar Chowk exit and go through Laxmi Chowk to Phase 2 Road.

This is where the time goes. In an August 2026 survey under the Unclog Hinjewadi IT Park campaign, employees ranked Laxmi Chowk the worst hotspot, then Wipro Circle, Bhumkar Chowk, Wakad Bridge and Hinjewadi Bridge (Punekar News). Radha Chowk is a choke point too: residents told police in March 2025 that Hinjawadi and highway traffic enter its narrow underpass at the same time (Free Press Journal).

Via Mahalunge and Maan Road (Phase 3)

For Phase 3 the router avoids the highway. From Radha Chowk it takes Mhalunge–Baner Road and Mhalunge–Nande Road (Mahalunge is spelt Mhalunge on most maps), then the Maan–Mhalunge connector and about 4 km of Maan Road. That skips Wakad, Bhumkar Chowk and Laxmi Chowk, but Maan Road is sixth on the survey list. In August 2026 residents of Hinjawadi, Maan and Marunji demanded that Maan Road, Laxmi Chowk and the Balewadi–Mhalunge Road be widened within 90 days (Free Press Journal).

Peak versus off-peak

The Hinjawadi page on Wikipedia lists 8 am to 12 noon and 5.30 pm to 8 pm as the congested windows, when heavy vehicles are kept out of the park. In September 2026 a high-power committee on Hinjawadi also barred heavy construction-material vehicles from internal roads at peak hours (Free Press Journal).

No published travel-time data exists for the Balewadi run, only anecdotes. A Shivajinagar-based IT employee told The Bridge Chronicle in June 2026 that he loses 1.5 to 2 hours each way on the 23 km corridor (The Bridge Chronicle). Balewadi’s shorter distance helps, but you queue at the same junctions.

  • Start before 8 am if you can, since that is when the published peak window opens.
  • Choose the route by phase: the highway for Phases 1 and 2, the Mahalunge road for Phase 3.
  • Do a trial run at your real start time before you sign a lease or a booking form.

Metro Line 3: what changes, and when

Line 3 runs 23.3 km from Maan to District Court with 23 stations. The 12 stations from Maan to R K Laxman Museum Balewadi were cleared by CMRS on 23 July 2026 (The Bridge Chronicle), but the launch awaits an inauguration date. A September report expected it only after the Legislative Council election code lifts, with counting on 27 October (Swarajya). We found no confirmed date as of 23 October 2026.

Station names and order are from the Pink Line station list. At the 34 km/h average speed listed there, the roughly 13.3 km from Maan to R K Laxman Museum would take about 23–24 minutes. That is our estimate, not a timetable.

The nearest station to Dasara Chowk, Balewadi High Street (0.5 km), is not in the first opening, so you would board at R K Laxman Museum (0.8 km) or Mitcon Balewadi (1.3 km). At the Hinjewadi end, the same September 2026 committee proposed about 19.1 km of last-mile roads within 1.5 km of stations, with footpaths, cycle tracks and feeder buses (Free Press Journal). Our Balewadi metro station guide tracks the opening.

Company shuttles and PMPML buses

Company buses play a small part: the August 2026 survey found cars most common, then two-wheelers, with fewer people using cabs and company buses. Ask your transport desk about Balewadi or Baner stops.

COCO Rides, launched in May 2026 by Routematic with the Hinjawadi Industries Association, started with over 80 buses, 70-plus routes and more than 500 boarding points across Pune. Employees of member companies book seats on an app with a corporate email, at fixed times and prices (CMV360). The launch coverage did not list Balewadi stops, so check the app.

PMPML buses are the weak link, with use described as negligible in the survey. Check current routes and timings on PMPML’s own website.

Cycling to Hinjewadi: the realities

On OSRM’s bicycle profile, run on the FOSSGIS routing server, Dasara Chowk to Phase 1 is 5.7 km and about 27 minutes, Embassy TechZone 9.6 km and 43 minutes, and Phase 3 12.5 km and 49 minutes. Phase 1 is a realistic ride for a regular cyclist.

The catch is the route, which uses highway ramps and service roads near Radha Chowk and Wakad. The PMC’s Environment Status Report 2025-26 says only about 11% of Pune’s 83 km of cycle tracks are usable, and the Smart City bicycle-sharing scheme that covered Baner and Balewadi was discontinued (Punekar News).

  • Ask about secure cycle parking and showers at your campus before you commit.
  • In October 2026 the PMC ordered a continuous 75 km cycle-track network and Baner Road works finished by 31 December 2026, ahead of the Pune Grand Tour 2027 (Punekar News).

Road projects that could shorten the trip

  • Hinjawadi internal roads: the state sanctioned ₹426 crore in September 2026, and the collector asked for work on six roads in the corridor to start on 1 December 2026 (Punekar News).
  • Balewadi–Kaspate Vasti road: 1.8 km of the 5.4 km road still needed land in February 2026, with about ₹92 crore of compensation planned (Punekar News). The Mula bridge to Wakad was still unusable in July 2026 (Free Press Journal).
  • Pune Ring Road: the western stretch was about 30% complete with a December 2027 target (The Bridge Chronicle).

What this means if you buy or rent in Balewadi

For a Phase 1 job, 7 km is a short commute by west Pune standards, and Phase 3 stays near 13–14 km on the Mahalunge road. Phase 2 is where Balewadi’s edge narrows, because that route crosses Bhumkar Chowk and Laxmi Chowk.

Before you commit to a home here, walk to the nearest station and drive to Radha Chowk at 9 am. At Bhansali Bespoke – The Hamptonns, the planned High Street station is about 0.5 km away and possession is targeted for December 2029 (some portals show December 2030, so check MahaRERA). Bottom line

On paper, Balewadi to Hinjewadi is a short trip: 6.9 km to Phase 1, about 12 km to Phase 2 and 13.4 km to Phase 3. The junctions decide your day, so match the route to your phase, test it at your real start time and treat Metro Line 3 as a bonus until it opens. The Wipro and Infosys Phase 2 campuses are about 11.5–11.7 km away, Embassy TechZone about 11.9 km, and TCS Sahyadri Park in Phase 3 about 13.4 km via Mahalunge. These are OSRM road distances checked in October 2026.

How long does the drive from Balewadi to Hinjewadi take?

Off-peak, plan on 15 to 25 minutes to Phase 1; free-flow routing gives about 11 minutes. At peak, allow at least double. Wikipedia lists 8 am to noon and 5.30 pm to 8 pm as Hinjawadi’s congested windows, and Laxmi Chowk tops the 2026 hotspot list.

Is there a metro from Balewadi to Hinjewadi?

Metro Line 3 will connect them. From R K Laxman Museum Balewadi it is four stops to Hinjawadi Phase-I and eleven to Maan. That stretch was cleared by CMRS on 23 July 2026 but had not opened to passengers as of 23 October 2026. The Balewadi High Street station is not in the first opening.

Which route is best for Hinjewadi Phase 3?

Routing data favours the Mahalunge road: from Radha Chowk along Mhalunge–Baner Road and Mhalunge–Nande Road, then the Maan–Mhalunge connector and Maan Road. It is about 13.4 km to TCS Sahyadri Park and avoids the Wakad, Bhumkar Chowk and Laxmi Chowk junctions, although Maan Road has congestion of its own.
