Hospitals within about 5 km of Balewadi
Road distances below come from the OSRM router, checked in October 2026. Accreditation details come from certificates on the NABH portal unless stated otherwise. Off-peak these are short drives; at peak, junctions such as Radha Chowk and Mamta Chowk can slow any trip (Punekar News).
| Hospital | Area | Road distance | Size | NABH status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manipal Hospital | Baner–Mhalunge Road, Baner | 1.9 km | 250 beds, 61 ICU beds at launch (2022) | Accredited, valid to 25 Oct 2027 |
| Jupiter Hospital | Baner–Pimple Nilakh Road, Baner | 2.1 km | No official bed count found | Accredited, valid to 1 Jul 2027 |
| Sanjeevani Vitalife Medipoint | Aundh | 3.9 km | Not published | None found in our search |
| Surya Mother & Child Super Speciality | Wakad | 4.7 km | 110 sanctioned beds | Accredited, valid to 31 Mar 2028 |

NABH, the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers, publishes each accredited hospital’s certificate with its validity dates and a “scope” listing the services it was assessed for. That scope is more useful than a brochure, because it shows what the hospital was actually accredited to do.
The two large hospitals in Baner
Manipal Hospital Baner (1.9 km)
Manipal opened its Baner hospital in August 2022 with 250 beds, 61 ICU beds, seven modular operation theatres and four bone marrow transplant suites (IndiaMedToday). Its NABH certificate, H-2023-1260, runs from 26 October 2023 to 25 October 2027.
The accredited scope includes:
- Emergency medicine and critical care
- Cardiology, including interventional cardiology, and cardiothoracic and vascular surgery
- Medical, surgical and radiation oncology
- Nephrology with dialysis, and urology
- Surgical gastroenterology, including hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery
- A blood bank and in-house laboratory services
The hospital’s own Baner page also lists organ transplant and robotic-assisted surgery among its specialities, and says it holds NABH certification for emergency care. It sits on the Baner–Mhalunge main road, the closest of the large hospitals to Dasara Chowk.
Jupiter Hospital Baner (2.1 km)
Jupiter’s NABH certificate, H-2020-0723, gives its address as Baner–Pimple Nilakh Road near Ambedkar Bridge. It was first certified on 2 July 2020, and the current cycle is valid to 1 July 2027. The scope is broad:
- Transplants of kidney, liver, bone marrow, pancreas, small bowel, heart and lung
- Medical, surgical, radiation and gynaecological oncology, plus nuclear medicine and PET scanning
- Neurology, neurosurgery and interventional neurology
- Obstetrics including high-risk cases, and paediatrics including neonatology and paediatric cardiology
- Emergency medicine, critical care and a blood bank
The Jupiter Pune page lists more than 30 specialities, including robotic knee replacement and TAVI. It does not state a bed count, and third-party listings range from 178 to 375 beds, so ask the hospital directly if capacity matters to your decision.
Mother-and-child and mid-sized hospitals
Surya Mother & Child, Wakad (4.7 km)
Surya’s Wakad hospital holds NABH certificate H-2021-0797, valid from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2028, with 110 sanctioned beds. Its scope includes obstetrics and gynaecology, neonatology, paediatrics, paediatric surgery, paediatric cardiology, paediatric haemato-oncology and kidney transplant. It is on the Wakad side of NH48, so the drive from Balewadi uses the highway.
Lifepoint Multispeciality, Wakad (5.3 km)
Practo’s listing describes Lifepoint as a 100-bed hospital with 10 critical-care beds, three modular operation theatres, a 24-hour pharmacy and round-the-clock emergency and trauma services, on the Mumbai–Bangalore highway near Bhumkar Chowk. The page shows logos referring to ISO and NABH entry-level accreditation, but we could not find the certificate itself, so ask to see it.
Sanjeevani Vitalife Medipoint, Aundh (3.9 km)
This hospital is mapped on New DP Road in Aundh. We found no official website, and directory listings disagree on its address and services, so call before relying on it for anything specific.
Government hospitals
Aundh District Hospital is a state-run hospital in Aundh. In February 2024 a 100-bed critical care building, sanctioned at ₹40.05 crore under the PM-ABHIM health infrastructure mission, and a 30-bed AYUSH hospital were due to be inaugurated on its campus (Punekar News). We could not find a current official bed count.
Sassoon General Hospital, 12.3 km by road, is Pune’s large state-run teaching hospital, founded in 1867 and attached to B. J. Medical College. Its bed count is reported differently on Wikipedia, at 1,296 in one place and over 1,500 in another. If you hold a government health-scheme card, ask the hospital desk whether it is accepted before any planned treatment.

Emergencies: 108, 112 and a simple plan
Maharashtra’s Dial 108 ambulance service is free. By December 2025 it had 937 ambulances, including advanced and basic life support units, and had helped about 1.14 crore patients over 11 years, run by the state Public Health Department with BVG India (Navbharat Live). A new 10-year project reported in August 2024 is meant to expand the fleet to 1,756 vehicles (BioVoice News); we could not confirm how far that rollout has reached.
| Number or contact | Use it for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 108 | Ambulance | Free state service across Maharashtra |
| 112 | Police emergencies | The helpline Baner police asked residents to use in March 2025 |
| Hospital emergency line | Calling ahead to the casualty department | Save it from the hospital’s official website, not a directory |
| Society security desk | Gate access for an ambulance at night | Agree the drill with your society in advance |
Baner Police Station’s senior inspector urged Baner–Balewadi residents to call 112 at a March 2025 police–citizen meeting (Free Press Journal). A little preparation helps any household:
- Save 108, 112 and the emergency lines of the two nearest hospitals in every family member’s phone.
- Know where each hospital’s emergency entrance is; it may not be the main gate.
- Keep ID, the health-insurance card and a written list of current medicines in one place.
- Drive to your chosen hospital once at 9 am and once at 7 pm, so you know the real time.
Pharmacies, labs and everyday care
Neighbourhood chemists and chain pharmacies are easy to find on the main Baner and Balewadi roads, and the NABH scopes for Manipal, Jupiter and Surya all list an in-house dispensary and laboratory services. For night-time medicines, a hospital pharmacy is the likeliest option; Lifepoint’s listing mentions a 24-hour pharmacy, but confirm hours anywhere else.
Many diagnostic chains offer home sample collection. Before you choose a lab for regular tests, check that it is accredited by NABL, the national laboratory accreditation board, and that the accreditation covers the tests you need. For routine consultations, a neighbourhood family physician or clinic is often more convenient than a hospital outpatient department.
What to check before you rely on a hospital
- Look up the certificate on the NABH portal and note its validity date.
- Check whether the hospital is in your insurer’s or employer policy’s cashless network.
- Ask which services run round the clock, such as emergency, ICU, paediatric care and the blood bank.
- Note parking and drop-off space near the emergency entrance.
- For elderly parents, ask whether the hospital offers home care or follow-up visits.
How healthcare fits a home search in Balewadi
Two NABH-accredited multispeciality hospitals within about 2 km is one of Balewadi’s real strengths, especially for families with elderly parents or young children. The gaps in public information are bed counts and accreditation for the smaller hospitals, so fill those in yourself before you decide.
If you are comparing new projects, measure from the actual building rather than the locality. For The Hamptonns in Laxmi Nagar, our Dasara Chowk figures put Manipal at 1.9 km and Jupiter at 2.1 km, and the project plans a senior citizens’ area among its amenities. Check the location map for exact routes, and read our Balewadi area guide and schools near Balewadi High Street for the rest of family life here. If you are also weighing Baner, our Baner vs Balewadi comparison helps.
Bottom line
Balewadi is well placed for hospital care: two NABH-accredited multispeciality hospitals within about 2 km, a NABH-accredited mother-and-child hospital under 5 km away, and Sassoon, Pune’s large state-run hospital, 12.3 km away. Verify certificates and insurance cover yourself, save 108 and 112, and test the drive at peak. Our Balewadi to Hinjewadi commute guide covers the traffic side, or contact us to see the area.
